Bringing lighting to life

Light is essential to life and getting your lighting right in your home can make or break your room. There are several different types of lighting and a great lighting scheme should maximise the good points of a room and disguise the bad. By clever use of Tripod floor lamps or spotlight floorlamps, you can bring your room alive. The three types of lighting are as follows:

  1. 1. Ambient lighting - This is the main lighting in a room and provides the overall mood for a room. In general, main lighting generally comes from overhead in the form of a ceiling light or downlights. To create a great classy lighting base in your room look at a Nickel Colonial Hall Lantern to set the tone - bang on trend this season.
  2. 2. Accent lighting - designed to highlight certain areas or items in your room to give dramatic effect. Why not try highlighting a corner of your room or a bookcase with a wooden tripod floor lamp such as an  Oak Aluminium and Brass tripod search lamp or perhaps bring your favourite picture to life with a spotlight floorlamp such as this beautiful Designer Chrome tripod lamp.

3. Task lighting - this form of lighting is essential and includes reading lights or lights for specific tasks. A perfect task light would be a tripod floor lamp such as an Oak Campaign Tripod lamp or you can really add some designer flare with a spotlight floorlamp like the  Large Coastguard Patrol spotlight.

Vintage Propellers and Rowing oars - a design must have

In a year when the Queen's silver jubilee and the London Olympics are due to be held, there has never been a better time to embrace the lastest trend in good old fashioned British vintage style for your home - wooden propeller and rowing oar. Vintage British style is what the uber chic, top designers and the stars are opting for and can be achieved in most peoples homes a few quality anchor pieces.

With the Olympics just around the corner, vintage wooden rowing oars are as topical as they are stylish and by adding an Oxford rowing oar or Red tender rowing oar to your wall, you are sure to create a real talking point. Alternatively you could use a vintage reproduction antique propeller such as a WW1 wood and red tip propeller as a fun coat rack by simply adding some hanging hooks and if all that sounds like hard work then an Oxford varsity oar coat stand is a surefire way to impress and get the vintage style you are craving with no fuss. You can also bring vintage style to your kitchen by using a Lifeboat oar as a pan rack by adding some hooks or try a Medium wood propeller with red tips as an accent in a bathroom - bathtime will fly by! Wooden Propeller and wooden rowing oar are a great way to inject some fun British vintage style into your home at minimal cost.
